Justifying the Choice of Control and Comparator Groups

Systematic survey concludes that the critical importance in the choice of appropriate control or comparator group can be undermined by the lack of justification for these choices.

Submitted to us by IBTN Founding Member Dr. K. Freedland, this systematic survey conducted by M. Wang et al., whose results were recently published in Research on Social Work Practice, concludes that the critical importance in the choice of appropriate control or comparator group for behavioural and social sciences randomized controlled trials (BSSTs) is undermined by the lack of justification for these choices in a majority of studies surveyed (71.5%).
